Exhibtion weekend

This past weekend was  HUGE and I'm totally exhausted.
It really made me see art from a different perspective, from a socio-cultural perspective.

I exhibited with four very different artists, both in style and personality and it became starkly obvious that artists are sensitive souls. Artists, I believe, combine passion, ability, spontaneity, honesty, a sense of adventure and above all themselves to create their art, and it requires a lot of courage and determination to back yourself.

Creativity requires faith. Faith in your work, faith in your vision, faith in your craft and faith in your creative process.

Over the weekend the five of us had some fabulous conversations about different creative arts and the holistic approach to creating. I just love that creative people don't only stick to one medium, we all dabble in a few. Spinning, crocheting, woodwork, knitting, collaging and photography all got a mention. The most interesting for me was the chat I had with Di about yarns and spinning. Di buys her fleece direct from the farmer, she tests the quality herself and then sends it off to be spun before she creates amazing garments. I learnt so much and just wish I wasn't studying so I could delve into some knitting and crocheting this weekend :(

Anyway, it was a slow Saturday with heavy rain but Sunday saw all the latte-drinking-poodle-walking-Balmainers come to the Watch House for a squizzy and each of us made some mulla and went home with a smile and encouragement.

Thank you to everyone who came and supported me this weekend, it truly lifted my spirits and made this creative journey a little sweeter.
Liv x

    1. Thanks Nic, it was great fun but exhausting with my little beans and trying to organise my weekend around them and the exhibition.
You'll have to tee one up for yourself when the weather warms up x

  2. you might all be sensitive souls but you sound like a pretty down to earth aussie shelia to me, for an arty farty type ;-) (perhaps its those boofa boys at home?)

Glad you had a great result at the exhibition! Can't wait to see some of your work.

    1. haha…definitely not the pink-haired-weird-clothes-left-of-centre-arty-farty type Sharon, just an aussie girl who likes to create…you're bang on the buck, my fellas keep me grounded.
"great result" is generous, art is a tough gig, but with my money i'll be sure to go and buy a side of beef at the butcher to support you farmers doing it tougher x

  5. Funny, I was thinking just like Sharon that you don't seem entirely 'artistic' in all that you do. (That's a compliment by the way)!
Wonderful though for you to be able to engage in conversation with similar creative folk and perhaps explore a side of you often buried under weetbix encrusted floors and rabbit-pooped-on tshirts.
Your art is beautiful ... and yes, go forth and eat beef!

    1. …were you spying on me today Fi??? I actually had to scrap food off the floor with a knife. No joke!…..and as for the "rabbit-pooped t-shirt", those bloody fluff balls aren't allowed inside anymore. They poo everywhere and bite through cables.

  6. I so wish I could have made it, Olivia. The rain scared me off!! Balmain seemed like such a long way away all of a sudden. I'm just very glad that it went so well. x
