Sleeping Beauties

After the kids doze off to sleep I have a habit of going in and covering them up. I've convinced myself, over 10 years of parenting, that they stay asleep longer when they are warm. But last night I struggled to open Bear's door, he had turned the light on and had a shoe party, collapsing right at the door.

It got me thinking of the early days when each of them were babies.
The big boys didn't sleep through the night until they were 18 months, Lucy 15 months, and praise the Lord, Henry slept through at 8 months. I'm not sure why it took them all so long, well I do actually.... I was completely useless at control crying. Useless. Useless. Useless.
I'm one of those mums that would lie on the floor next to the cot and lose all circulation to my arm which was stretched up at an odd angle through the bars patting the kid to sleep. When I deemed the coast was clear to sneak out, I'd slither (lower than the cot height) so as not to arouse the little person or create massive shadows, but more often than not the pins and needles from lying frozen on the floor for 2 hours would make me collapse and creak a floor board or ten, and then the little person would sit bolt upright and we'd have to begin again.
It's been a fabulous 10 years of sleep for me really, I can honestly say I haven't slept through an entire night in ten years. I dream of the day I do.

But just like a kid's temperature drops when you take them to the doctor, these photos of my children make a mockery of my sleep deprivation.
Who would have thought that my babies were bad sleepers?!?!

Have a wonderful day Sunday tomorrow, and with a little luck, a sleep in !

  1. Haha, just gorgeous. Their ability to sleep absolutely anywhere is quite incredible isn't it. I've been very spoilt with my group of sleepyheads ... baby no. 4 slept through from 3 weeks ... not sure whether it was to preserve her mother's sanity, or perhaps I just finally stopped hearing them!

  3. These shots are priceless! I'd never be able to do the controlled crying thing either. My older 4 all slept through between 6 and 8 months, but Flynn here is dragging the chain a bit but I think we're almost there (touches nearest piece of wood!). Mel x
